Some thoughts on love...

“He’s in love,” said Gaspode. “It’s very tricky.”
“I’ve watched ‘em,” said Squeak. “She thinks he’s an idiot.”
“That’s all part of it,” added Gaspode. “They call it romance.”

"Love leads us where we did not intend to go, where we would not have chosen to go if we had known the whole story ahead of time."

I felt strong now, stronger than I had ever felt in my life, and the joy of holding my Lover's hand overwhelmed me. I was more than innocent; I was victorious. No scar was left. I was a bride.

The sun sank behind the distant mountains, and He stopped walking, drawing me close to Him, as we gazed on the beauty of this new world. I rested in His arms, secure and complete. Such a short time ago, all I felt was my own emptiness, my very lack of existence. Now as I pressed against Him I was complete. He stoked my hair and whispered quietly, "Never, never will I ever let go of you again."

"What if I should leave you again, as I did before?" The thought frightened me.

He smiled down at me. "You won't. I purchased you for all eternity, and no one, not even you yourself can take you away from me."

It was on the evening of…June 9 that Jim and I walked out to a cemetery and sat down on a stone slab. I told him I did not think it would help us much in discerning God’s direction if we started right in on a heavy correspondence. Wouldn’t it make more sense to “cool it”? Not that we used that expression in those days, but it says what I meant. To allow for the perspective that both distance and silence could give might help us to see the whole thing with cool reason.

Jim thought that over for a few minutes. Then he spoke of the story he had read in his Bible study that morning—the story of Abraham’s offering up of the most precious thing in his life: his son Isaac. “So I put you on the altar,” he said.

Slowly we became aware that the moon, which had risen behind us, was casting the shadow of a stone cross on the slab between us.

We were silent for a very long time, pondering this undeniable sign. What Abraham did was the ancient prelude to the full revelation of the Love of God. The readiness to give up his son and the rewards promised because of it—again the central truth of the Cross was brought to us in a strange and mysterious manner. When the silence became heavy, Jim said, “And what is to be done with the ashes?” Time would show.

1. Marriage is no real excuse for not loving.
14. The easy attainment of love makes it of little value: difficulty of attainment makes it prized.
15. Every lover regularly turns pale in the presence of his beloved.
16. When a lover suddenly catches sight of his beloved his heart palpitates.
23. He whom the thought of love vexes eats and sleeps very little.
24. Every act of a lover ends in the thought of his beloved.
25. A true lover considers nothing good except what he thinks will please his beloved.

Don’t measure God's mind by your own. It would be a poor love that depended not on itself, but on the feelings of the person loved. A crying baby turns away from its mother's breast, but she does not put it away till it stops crying. She holds it closer. For my part, in the worst mood I am ever in, when I don't feel I love God at all, I just look up to His love. I say to Him, "Look at me. See what state I am in. Help me!" Ah! you would wonder how that makes peace. And the love comes of itself; sometimes so strong, it nearly breaks my heart.
~George MacDonald

There are no guarantees. From the viewpoint of fear, none are strong enough. From the viewpoint of love, none are necessary.

The supreme happiness in life is the conviction that we are loved. ~ Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

Don't know as how I'd agree with the "annoy" bit :-P

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Oh Joseph--it's very annoy. :-D I annoy Pete all the time. Do you have any idea how much fun it can be to pick on him???

Well, duh Kelly, he probably doesn't have any idea what fun it can be to annoy Pete, because he wouldn't try.

*shrugs*

It's still fun. :-D Can't be serious all the time, you know!
