Housekeeping

Okay, it's time for a few basic housekeeping items to catch up with things.

1. My "Related Links" have now been moved to the top of this blog, just beneath the header. Baby "Weebix's" blog has been renamed "First Impressions." Those of you who check this blog frequently can access his/her ideas at the corresponding link.

2. I am 19 weeks pregnant as of this week. I have felt the baby move rather consistently. Either peanut butter gives him hiccups, or he really likes to bee-bop to the peanut butter fat. Or maybe he just likes celery. I'm not sure. We are having an ultrasound done on March 1, but for the record, we will not be telling people the sex of the baby. We would like to maintain some element of excited surprise for our families and friends.

3. Pete and I have photographed two weddings so far in January. Pictures from these weddings will be forthcoming at some point soon. In the meantime, here is a list of some funny notables from our experiences.

*Bride: "[Groom's] friend plays the bagpipes, and he'll be playing for our wedding, quilt and all."

*Maid of Honor turns away from couple during ceremony, blinking hard because of tears. Or is it tears? Her fake eyelashes are falling out!

*Bridal party in the [Bride's Last Name]/[Groom's Last Name] wedding is assigned to wait in a specific room in the church. Name of the room? The [Groom's Last Name] room. Hmm...

*Mother of the bride always wanted to be a model. Have you ever seen a fifty-year-old woman headbanging in front of a camera to make her hair fly?

*Oops! Psalm 30 becomes Psalm 31 when the reader doesn't show up. The wedding Psalm goes from "I will extol thee, O Lord, for thou has lifted me up" to "For my life is spent with grief and my years with sighing..."

*Bride contacts me to shoot her wedding for $400. Tops. Then gets offended when I tell her I can't shoot it for less than $700. "Hello, I'm pregnant. How are you?"

*How badly do you want a family portrait? Pretty badly when you wind up with your dad standing between his TWO wives--the ex and the step. EEGH...

*Screaming children. Wonderful addition to a wedding. Just not when they are flower girls whose moms are in the wedding party and have to go down the aisle first. The poor coordinator never saw what hit her as the kid ran down the aisle at top speed, screaming all the way.

*How long does it take YOU to figure out how to cut a cake?

*Should we worry if the groom's life song is "Bad to the Bone"?

*When you're at a stressful sort of wedding, it is not a *good* idea for the pastor to forget to allow the bride and groom to kiss before the recessional. On second thoughts, the replay was sensational!

*I'm not sure if I should be flattered or weirded out that Pete can find me by my scent at weddings. That's when the flash isn't going off.

I think that's probably more than enough for now. Just to clarify, nothing in this post is meant to be offensive or anything beyond humorous. I love all of my clients and the people that I have photographed. I love that they are people, and that I get to share in their lives, even if it's just for just a few of their funnier human moments. They are why I love what I do. Somehow, seeing others live keeps me alive.
