Am I 1L or 2L?

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

I've noticed a strange phenomenon among my friends.

Most of them call me "Kell."

Or "Kel."

Never mind that *I* usually think of myself as "Kelly."

Pete is dead certain that it must be "Kel" with one "l."

Kate, who called me "Kell" before anyone, refuses to acknowledge that it isn't two.

So, for you who know me, Am I a 1L Kel or a 2L Kell to you?

Clearly, as the wife of an embryo- lawyer, you're a 1L! You're also Beauty. Resilient. Spicy. Angel. Creativity incarnate. And a bunch of other names that are just between us :)

I'm w/ Pete on this one. You are a Kel.

And I miss you two - er - three!

Yeah, for a second there I thought you were considering law school...

I just stick with calling you "Kelly," personally, so I have no dog in this fight!

I learned from Kate. You'll always be Kell to me. Though I tried to get used to Pete's version, it just didn't look right to me.

Kel? Who's that? I don't know any Kel! I'm with Kate. 2-L's required. Even my spell checker says Kel is wrong.

LOL! Actually, I often think of you without the "y" but once I saw K-e-l and K-e-l-l spelled out, neither of them fit! :-P

Is it ok that I call you Kell sometimes? I always think of the sound Kell, and it just seems to look better with two Ls when I write it - but on paper it looks weird to call you Kell...you are definitely a Kelly.

Ha – I actually had to check my email records on this one. Of late I have largely addressed my emailed to you without using you first name at all :-P When I do use a shortened version, though, I appear to make you a 2L.
So congrats – you’re a year away from being done with law school ;)

I would normally just call you "Kelly," but the 1L Kel looks more right to me for some reason. Maybe because it looks more like a nickname to me than a regular word. (There are not many English words that use just "el" on the end, while "ell"s abound.) So there's another vote on Pete's side. ;-)
