How God Speaks

"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they."

~Hebrews 1:1-4

The first thing I noticed in this passage is that God has spoken at various times and in various ways in the past. This is kind of a big thing for me right now--knowing that God speaks. He does speak to me. There have been a couple of people in my life who don't believe that God would or could speak to me except in the written Word of Scripture.

The second thing I noticed is that He has spoken to us in these last days by His Son, Jesus. The author of Hebrews is writing to Israelites and explaining to them that the God they knew in the Old Testament was no longer speaking through prophets, but speaking directly to them through His Son, who was God Himself.

Look at the description of Jesus here:

1. God has appointed Him heir of all things
2. God made the worlds through Him (He spoke--Jesus is the Word)
3. He is the brightness of God's glory
4. He is the express image of God's person
5. He upholds all things by the word of His power
6. He Himself purged our sins
7. He sat down at the right hand of God on high
8. He has become so much better than the angels
9. Because of His inheritance, He has obtained a more excellent name than the angels

More on this later. :-)
