Worth Reading

I ran across an article this morning about chastity and homosexuality that I thought worth reposting.

Though it is written from a Catholic perspective, this author is the first I've come across who actually attempts to present a Christ-centered approach in the growing language/understanding war over "activity" vs. "orientation." Instead of trying to justify one or the other, he draws attention to the focus of the desire--and its result. He treats each reader, homosexual or heterosexual, as a whole person whose first call is to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength."

The freedom that he advocates is not licentiousness or justification of self-centered desire. I am greatly encouraged to see someone thinking honestly through the lens of Christ and Scripture, rather than through the lens of whatever case he is trying to prove.

A few years ago, I would not have wanted to post any article about this topic, but as the homosexuality "discussion" bleeds into the mainstream of our culture, I think it is worth having a relevant, honest, Christ-centered perspective. Our focus is to be on Him, no matter what the issue.

"And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. 'And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.' But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil."
