A Bluish Friday

Yesterday I had my 37-week appointment with my midwife. I've been feeling tired, but figured it was just my body getting closer to the birth. Evidently, though, I'm quite anemic. The good news is that it's fixable if I eat lots of red meat and eggs and leafy green vegetables and, oh yes, chicken livers. The bad news is that if I don't get it up, I'm running a risk of hemorrhaging during or after the birth. Bleck. The midwife instructed me in no uncertain terms NOT to have the baby in the next week, until we could get my iron levels up.

Since I've had a relatively healthy pregnancy to this point, I'm really discouraged today. I'm realizing that I'm not going to get my weddings processed before the baby comes. I've been so tired the last week that I've spent most of my time pasted to the couch half-watching movies and not even wanting to move.

So I guess we wait some more and hope some energy comes back to do some more of what I need to do before the baby comes.

Hi Kelly,
I found your blog through Heidi's which I found through Wayne Jacobson's. I have really been encouraged by a lot of things you have written. I espcially related with the last part of your "Who I Want to Be" part II. God really used it in a special way. I am a college student at Purdue, I just got married last summer :) yeah!!! and when I read your post today, I wanted to let you know that I was signifigantly anemic too, (but not pregnant). I've been very tired for a while, but just these last couple days, I've been feeling a lot better. I just want to encourage you to keep trusting in the Lord, He'll see you through and He'll give you the stength that you need .
Sincerely,
Josie :)

Kel, Another thing to ask your midwife is if you can take a whole foods iron supplement. Most iron supplements found at drug stores are derived from elemental (metal) iron... not good for any bady. However, I take whole foods iron since I've always had an anemia problem. Might want to check!

two cats and fish2--thanks for the advice; I'm actually taking a better iron than the Whole Foods iron, but I a)haven't been taking enough of it, and b)haven't been watching my diet for the last couple of weeks. If my levels haven't improved by next week with all of the iron-rich foods the midwife told me to eat, they'll prescribe me a prescription-strength iron.

Josie, nice to meet you! Thank you for your comment--I told my husband this morning that I just needed encouragement today. You know how sometimes it's just not fixable and it's just nice to know somebody gets it.

That's discouraging. I remember them telling me I was anemic too. Thankfully I wasn't anemic enough for them to be too worried, though...there were other things to worry about. I'll be praying for you!
