Non-Etiquettical

Etiquette, one aspect of decorum, is a code that governs the expectations of social behavior, according to the conventional norm within a society, social class, or group.

In the last two days, I have remembered something about myself that has been somewhat buried by stress over the last several years. I have decided that it is time I remember and live accordingly.

Last I counted, I have moved 22 times. The people that I met and love and want to keep in touch with are many, especially after two college experiences. But so much of my "want to keep in touch" goes by the wayside in the course of daily function. Things like thank-you notes are few and far between, long, newsy letters are nearly non-existent, and even emails take weeks for me to return. People who know me well know that I can't remember dates for anything, so birthdays, anniversaries, and even holidays come and go without my remembering when or what I wanted to give.

All this missed responsibility piles up into a mountain of guilt that crushes even my desire to contact and gift so many people that I love.

So this weekend, I reached a determination for the sake of my sanity. I think I need to stop apologizing for the somewhat scatterbrained person that I am and remember that God created me the way He did for His own reasons. So from here on...

I intend to screw most of the the rules of etiquette.

So look out! I feel like I've been freed, so you never know when what will come for which day! I'm done with waiting for birthdays only to forget them, and with missing Christmas with my Christmas cards. Early or late, the recipient may decide, but I intend to be as random as I have time to be!

Here, here. That's just something you should do. I gave up on etiquet today, too, when I stared at the calendar and realized that today marks my 6 mo. wedding anniversary and I STILL have like 6 million wedding thank-yous demanding to go out and no physical ability to write them.

Who knows, maybe I'll combine wedding AND baby thank-yous. Save on a stamp that way and it provides the excuse to write a longer note. :-)

Sounds like fun! :-)

Oh goodness... I think etiquette went out the window for me long before I had a baby to blame it on. :-p

Well, at least you'll never feel like you've failed. As long as you try, you can fail. Me, I'd never write another thank you note in my life if I didn't have certain friends/family that call me up if I don't send one. Sick.
