Why I Write

Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Recently, I've been thinking a bit about why I write what I write on my blog. It often seems like personal information that ought not to be shared anywhere, at least by normal standards. So why don't I mind putting it here on my blog for the world to see?

I know how much I value personal connection with others through their writing, and I've received emails and letters from a number of my readers about how much they have been encouraged by my own writing. Now that I'm at home full time, I love having a bit of extra time to be more faithful with my posting.

I've come to the conclusion that my blog is a good place for me to learn (and share) what it means to "[conduct myself] in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you." (2 Corinthians 1:12)

I have known for a long time that I often express myself best in writing, and I've also known that my writing is not just for me. Writing is a way that I grow, and a way that I am able to be real where I fear I am not when I interact with others in person. So if my blog has given anyone a chance to know me with my faults, my inadequacies, my struggles, my joys, my randomnesses, my victories, and my God, and if you have been able to identify with my heart and see more of Him, then what I have written has been worth it, and I am glad I did not choose to hide behind a curtain of inanity.

"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, "What! You too? I thought I was the only one!" (C.S. Lewis)

Thank you, friends, for reading!

Nearly every time I read one of your entries I count myself the luckiest of all men to be married to you

Kelly, thanks for your comment on my blog. What's your connection to hslda? I see from your links page that we know some of the same people. Sara Jones and I interned together at hslda some years ago.

By the way, this post is beautiful and I write on my blog for similar reasons.

I worked as the Litigation Assistant at HSLDA (for Darren Jones & Jim Mason) for about 4 1/2 years. I just quit so I could go home and have Piper. I must have run across your blog from a comment on Sara's blog or something, but I have really enjoyed your writing too, so I check it almost every time I go blogging!

I love that Lewis quote! That's so true for me...sometimes I think I'm the only one who thinks a certain way, or is doing certain things, and that's a big reason why reading your blog is so encouraging!

Always glad to introduce two deep thinkers to each other, while I trip off and write wispy stuff to make people smile.

I do enjoy your blog, though. I think mostly because it's from such a different perspective.

I love reading your blog and Piper's! Even though we saw each other so rarely, I felt like I was still in touch with you. :) And, to keep my own promise - I've been posting myself! Thank you for creating the template for me!~April
