Once upon a time, there was a girl who was hurting. Someone saw her pain and loved her. She trusted him with her heart. Then he decided he couldn't love her and stopped.
For a long time afterward, the girl believed that love said, "I love you, but I can't anymore because _______." She tried to stop wanting love so it wouldn't hurt so much when it was taken from her, and she tried to be good enough to deserve love in the first place. That didn't work very well.
Then God told the girl something true about love.
"Love is when the lover lives the life of the loved."
The girl decided that it might be okay to want to be loved after all.

That is a beautiful post, Kelly. I've felt the same way--sometimes I'm so afraid of being hurt, that I want to give up loving entirely, but God designed us to love and be loved.
