Strict Scrutiny

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

I just opened a parenting book that shall not be named here.

The Foreword begins, "This book could not have been possible without the many friends who recklessly and, at the time, unknowingly contributed to the many examples found in these pages. Little did they know that their parenting was being scrutinized and documented."

Please excuse me for panicking.

I HATE parenting books where the author sits back and analyzes everyone else's methods... usually to the detriment of the other parents. (Well, actually, you could put a period after the first four words and it would still be accurate, but I decided to elaborate.)

One in particular liked to highlight parents who never did it right, when the author himself could always deal with the child the right way.

Physically wrenching myself away from a rant here.

Hee hee! You too? I think I pulled something stopping the post where I did.

There *are* excellent parenting books available which are helpful so we don't have to reinvent the wheel every generation. Your friend SJ must be talking about Michael Pearl!!! He and his wife certainly can do no wrong, tee hee!
