we have been married 3 years

Friday, October 10, 2008

It doesn't feel that long. And it feels like forever. We can't remember what we did for our second anniversary.

Since Kate is visiting and quite willing to watch Piper, we went bowling last night. An hour and a half later, we ran out of ideas and came home. (Actually, we came home to watch The Office.) We went to bed early.

We're too young to be this old and fuddy-duddyish.

We were remembering three years ago. Pete's morning visit the day of our wedding because he'd forgotten his cell phone. The sun shining in my window after a week of rain. The butterflies that kept me drinking water all afternoon.

We were remembering the last two years, the pregnancy, the Bar, Piper, my health, Pete's job, the moves. We lived these together. In survival mode, but we were still together.

This year's anniversary comes as we are renewing our friendship, remembering who we are, learning what it means to keep current with one another, choosing to be vulnerable even if we're each not what we want to be.

Relationship is not static. Each morning brings a new opportunity, a new perspective, another chance to reach out, to learn to receive. We've had an honest three years. It has been uncomfortable, painful, crazy. And we have had moments, days with laughter. I still blush when my husband looks at me. I can still make him bashful.

I'm looking forward to the rest of our life together, but I'm so grateful for today. I'm grateful for my husband, for his heart, for his desire to share life with me. I wish I could give him so much more. I am so grateful for his love.

Happy anniversary to two of my favourite people!

Your date sounds a lot like Sara's and mine - we often end up getting home earlier than planned, because we're homebodies.

May the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, rest upon your family this year!

Happy Anniversary! I completely understand the fuddy-duddy comment. It's just lovely to be together, right? That's what's so great about being married. The scene doesn't really matter, as long as you're together.

Lol... I'm enjoying all the agreements with the "fuddy-duddy" comment. I was about to say the same thing. We've only had two anniversaries so far: one spent at home, the other dinner and a movie. We're pretty boring, but we like it that way. ;-)

Happy anniversary!
