The Hair Saga is Over

Tuesday, January 27, 2009

It has been about two years since I had my hair cut short. It may be about two years again, if things go the way they went this weekend to get it cut.

I've been debating about sharing the saga that includes a non-caring male stylist who just wanted to be done for the day, who was answering cell phone calls during my haircut, watching the people go by in the mall outside during my cut, and trying to make me like something that I didn't like at all. I don't know if I want to go into how much courage it took me to tell a stylist for the first time in my life that I hated it. I don't want to talk about being angry because I felt so vulnerable about losing five inches of hair I loved for a cut I hated. I'm still debating about admitting to the fact that I went for a SECOND cut yesterday to get the whole thing fixed because of my own vanity.

So for now, I think I'll just stick with a photo and leave it at that. All affirming comments will be absorbed straight to my feminine ego. Including affirming comments for the man in my life who let me get it cut both times and loved me before and after and until he dies. Which might be soon if I don't take it easy on him. (Man, I love that guy...)

Sounds like a no-fun experience, but I love the result! I hate trying to tell stylists what to do. Maybe that's one of the reasons I normally only get my hair cut 2-3 times a year. :-p

But anyway... I think it looks super cute! I am debating getting mine cut short again. I don't think I've ever had it quite as short as yours is now, but the look definitely works for you! You look gorgeous. :-)

Well yip yip yip yahoo- sign me up for all the affirming comments you'll accept! What's it been, three+ years and you STILL don't listen when I tell you you're the most gorgeous woman in the whole world?
Take note, other comment-posting-persons: My wife: Pretty. You (and/or) yours: Not as pretty.
Rude? Perhaps, but she's signaled a willingness to listen this time, so kindly afford me some leeway!

Of course, all of this is posted with the assumption that I'm that "man-in-your-life"... ;)

Many affirming comments from here. I think it looks great. It does a good job of framing your face.

What a terrible experience, though. Perhaps a communication to the manager might be in order?

?ete: First part of your statement: yes. Second part: sorry, I disagree :)

I LOVE it! In fact, it makes me feel a little more solid about my own plans to go get mine lopped off. I've been putting it off (half trepidation and half sheer laziness), but I think it's time. Uncaring stylist aside, the final result looks terrific, Kelly!

Well I don't know what it looked like the first time (when you hated it), but I love this! It's very different, but super cute.

I've discovered that a) since I don't get my hair cut more than a couple times a year and b) I really really care that it looks good after I get it cut, it is totally worth it to shell out $50 at a nice salon to have someone cut my hair who a) knows what they're doing and b) cares that I like it (and would fix it if I don't.

At any rate, I think the short cut really works for you! It seems shorter than the last time you cut it short, but maybe that's just cuz I don't remember...

First of all I think you look great. But i know if you hate then it doesn't matter what we all say.

When I was pregnant with my second son I got my hair cut REALLY short. I had at least 8 inches cut off. I hated it so much I wanted to cry. Good for you for telling the guy how you felt.

((((hugs))))

Pete, I love you. You make me smile. Before the sun came out today. :-)

Katrina - glad to have inspired you! I'll have to stop by your blog to see the result. Please post a photo!

sunmamma - I had that experience on my honeymoon. It was probably about two inches shorter than THIS from the length I just got whacked. Thanks for sharing!

Heidi - I totally agree! Which is WHY I shelled out $50 at a nice salon the first time. *grimace*

Sheesh! $50 and the guy talked on the cell phone while he was cutting your hair? I think that DOES deserve talking to the manager. Wow.

Wow, you're stylish was really rude. That's why I still drive 45 min. to go to my gal. She's great and I'm so afraid to change! You're looks really cute, regardless!

your cut looks really good on you!! and yes you should call the manager :)

Oh Kelly, Kelly. First, never get your hair cut at a mall--even if they ARE charging $50. :) Second, never be afraid to tell your stylist to GET THE HECK OFF THE PHONE while he/she is cutting your hair. ;)

Don't feel too bad, though. All things considered, the new cut turned out pretty cute. :)

Definitely different, but definitely lovely! Not only does it look good, but it appears that it will be (at least hopefully) low-maintanance. Which is important. Especially when you have a two year old.

It's a cute cut. Not a cute stylist.

P.S. Always listen to your husband. That's what they're there for, to actually believe those great things they say about it.

Kelly this is very interesting for me as I have never been to your space before ...so it looks sassy and very complimentary ;;;good for you for saying to the guy you hated it...of course you got it recut...who wouldn't! ELK

I love it, Kelly! I'm ridiculously jealous because I have recently been in the hair chopping mood. I'm so tempted to hack it off while Ben is on TDY but would hate to see the look of dissappointment I would get when he saw me for the first time in 3 months! My son is just now hitting that stage where he likes to pull on it constantly... Fun times! I really do like the cut. Sorry you had all that trouble with the first guy!

I think your hair is cute but I'm a short hair girl (like 1/4 inch length) myself.

Sorry for the miserable experience! It IS adorable, as are you. :)

oh, I feel your pain with you. Is there anything with women that is quite so personal as our hair?!? Truly, I think your cut here is darling. So sorry for time with that lousy stylist.
(back when I lived in NorCal, I had a stylist who was completely disinterested in me each time I went in - talking to the other stylists, customers, etc., BUT I got a great cut each time so it didn't matter to me ;-)

Hi, I'm new to your blog. :)

I too suffer from hair issues. I never feel comfortable telling a stylist I don't like what they did to my hair. Sigh. I even go so far as to tip them ridiculously.

However, your hair was very worth the extra trip in, and hooray for your husband for putting up with it all.

You look wonderful! :)

You just got a shout out from Chatting at the Sky, and if she recommends it, it has to be good. Now, I just can't get past the sweet comment from your hubby, and your desire to follow Jesus humbly and authentically. :)

I don't see an email listed on your blog...is there one? I just found your equipment list. I want the spy lens too :) I'm thinking of getting a Sigma 18-200 and see you have a Sigma Macro. Do you like your Sigma?

Thanks for letting me use your headers. Here's to hoping you don't mind :)

I never struggled with "hair" but as I get older it's getting harder! I am 36...and sometime my long hair in a clip needs a change!
