An Evening in My Town

Thursday, June 18, 2009

There was actually a breeze coming off the water. I didn't notice it until we had left the couple we were there to photograph. They headed into the downtown area, and Pete and I walked hand in hand across the grass for a few minutes before Piper decided she wanted to rush ahead and get into the fountain. I carried her and Pete carried the camera equipment and we mused about Charleston in the summer and how lovely the scented breeze was, how alive we felt in the lingering remnants of the sunset that had ended my shoot.

I am slowly learning to love this place, from the little homey things we're doing in the house we rent to the only-20-minute commute to the beach. I suppose you could say I am learning to rest here, learning the value of waiting on God, learning for the first time, really, what that means. And as I find my heart settling down, I know I will miss even this when we must go again, and I remember that my home is not here anyway.

I wonder if I will miss the soft embrace of the darkness at sunset. I hope that when I get to that heavenly city God is preparing, I can have a mansion that is a cottage beside both the mountains and the sea, with seasons and lots of grass. I imagine God knows what I want more than I know, though, so I content myself with the dreams for now, until His reality outshines them.

Still, I thought I'd share a little of this evening we enjoyed in our town.

How beautiful. Charleston is a place I'd like to visit someday. I hope you'll still be there when I do! ;)

Ya know...I've often wondered if God is making a mansion just like we've always wanted, or if they all look the same. I don't think it would be consistent with who God is to make every place the same...but at the same time, I want horses and I wonder if God will include those for me. =\ Hmm...

I'm rambling on your ramblings...oh, dear. I just thought I'd share that. =)
